Al Hassan Group launches Toastmasters Club (16 Jan. 2010)

As part of corporate commitment to develop leaders at all levels in the organization, the Management Development Centre (MDC) of Al Hassan Group recently conducted "Speech Craft" workshop. Employees from various Al Hassan Group SBUs participated in this 6 day workshop, which was conducted by Mr. Sanjay Khandagle, Manager-Talent Management and Mr. George Thomas of Toastmasters International. The Toast Masters speech craft manual was used as a guide for the program.

The closing ceremony of the workshop was attended by Mr. Maqbool Ali Salman, Managing Director, Mr. Shahzad Sadan, GM-Human Resources of Al Hassan Group, Toastmaster Rajan Phillips who was the Chief Guest along with Toastmaster Srikant Pai and Toastmaster Ravindran.

Mr. Maqbool Ali Salman emphasized that although the skill of public speaking is one of the components of effective communication skill, it is an important element of leadership ability to be learnt by all the employees of Al Hassan.

In order to extend the opportunity and platform to all employees of Al Hassan Group to develop their Leadership skills by way of effective communication, the Al Hassan Toastmasters Club (AHTC) was launched with an initial strength of 20 members. AHTC would conduct meetings every week at Wadi Kabir Head Office on Mondays from 5-7 pm and ensure continuous learning for all its members.

Commenting on the launch of AHTC, Mr Salman said, "We hope that the meetings will stimulate and encourage creativity in the members' speeches. This would lead to employees communicating effectively through the structured Competent communicator course and the leadership success series. From the Audience Warm-up to the Toastmasters opening, through the standard Prepared Speeches, Table Topics, and Evaluations, and the final Joke-Master closing, we hope that the 2 hours will be dedicated to self improvement leading to effective harnessing of People Power".

Toastmasters International is a voluntary organization that facilitates the members to improve communication skills and leadership abilities through mutual-cooperation, feedback and learning in a non-threatening environment. There are almost 250,000 members in more than 12,500 Toastmasters club worldwide.
