SQU students visit Al Hassan Switchgear Ghala Factory (14 April 2011)

As a part of Al Hassan Group’s Corporate Social responsibility, one of the key commitments is to have a better industry-academic interaction so as to bridge the gap between the theory and the practices in Industry. The Management Development Center (MDC) under the banner of Organisational Development Department works closely with premier Higher Education institutions so as to bring the students at par with the industry requirements in terms of building knowledge, skills and aptitude.

In this regard, a batch of 14 students in the final year of Power Engineering along with faculty from the Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) paid a visit to the Ghala factory of Al Hassan Switchgear Manufacturing Company LLC (AHSG) recently. Earlier, AHSG had conducted a Technical Workshop in SQU.

Prof. Dr. Mounir, Faculty, SQU, said that the visit came as a result of Al Hassan’s proactive approach and SQU’s continuous search for new fields of educational exploration for trainees. “We believe that AHSG is one of the few full fledged manufacturers in the GCC with capabilities ranging from product design, system design to type tests and dispatch all under one roof. The visit offers an excellent opportunity for our students to learn about the practical aspects of Switchgear Manufacturing in a modern set up."

During the visit, the students were provided with extensive information on various processes in the switchgear manufacturing through a presentation as well as physical demonstration. The students also saw in action use of the latest microprocessor controlled test equipment with multiple data capture features which is used for calibration and quality assurance aspects of switchgear. The students were quite amazed to see the state of preparedness of AHSG in terms of taking care of the people, precious resources, and the environment.

All the students as well as their faculty expressed happiness with the information and knowledge they gained during their visit. They were extremely happy to learn the application side of what they have learnt and mentioned that it is a pride that Oman has such state-of-the-art factories.

Dr. Mounir, Coordinator of the industrial visit commented that he valued Al Hassan’s cooperation in making this visit a success. He expressed gratitude towards Al Hassan Group’s desire to strengthen ties with different educational establishments in the Sultanate.
