Hi-Tech Services & Supplies organizes Seminar on Welding for Petrochemicals (13 October 2011)

Hi-Tech Services and Supplies LLC (Hi-Tech), part of the Trading SBU of the Al Hassan Group along with its principal, Böhler Welding Group, Austria jointly organized a technical seminar on welding for Petrochemicals on 12th October 2011 at Hotel Grand Hyatt Muscat.

The Hi-Tech team was in full attendance led by Hassan bin Ali Salman, Chairman, Al Hassan Group while Böhler Welding Group team comprised a number of technical experts. Böhler Welding Group is a member of the Voestalpine Group, Austria, a leading international customized high quality and high-tech steel products and solutions company. Böhler is a leading welding consumables brand for all welding applications and is spread across more than 120 countries worldwide.

Hi-Tech is the distributor of Böhler Welding Group products in Oman and is associated with the entire brand portfolio, viz., Böhler, T-PUT, Fontargen, UTP, Soudokay and Avesta. Hi-Tech has a number of prestigious project references for its Welding Solutions such as PDO’s Burhan Gas Pipeline Project, Amal Power Station, Kawther & Saih Nihayada Depletion Compression Projects, Sohar Deepwater Bulk Jetty Project.

K.S. John, Middle East Industry Segment Manager Petrochemical, Böhler initiated the proceedings by welcoming the delegates and outlining the agenda.

Manfred Höfer, Application Specialist - Böhler began the seminar with a detailed review on the applications of Super Duplex Stainless Steel (SDSS) in Petrochemical and Chemical Industries.

Subsequently, Volker Gross, Head - Application Department - Böhler, shared the company’s proficiency in Fabrication of heavy-walled process equipment for the petrochemical industry. He also covered Essentials about CrMo-CrMo(v) Welding.

K.S. John Later, Issam Chiguer, Area Sales Manager - Soudokay shared Böhler’s expertise in strip cladding of petrochemical process equipment.

Anders Bornmyr, Product Manager - Avesta Finishing Chemicals, outlined the importance of pre-cleaning, pickling and passivation of stainless steel process equipment.

These technical sessions were followed by a highly interactive Q&A session wherein around 50 delegates from leading firms like PDO, Al Hassan Engineering, Arabian Industries, GS E&C, Galfar, L&T, Mott MacDonald, Petron, Safeway, STS, TOCO, Velosi, Worley Parsons engaged in detailed technical discussions with the experts from Böhler. Many delegates commented that the seminar provided a good platform for knowledge sharing and a roadmap for future developments in the welding sector.

Commenting on the seminar, Mr. Salman in his closing remarks said, "Hi-Tech Services & Supplies in partnership with Böhler looks ahead to be the preferred welding solutions provider in the Sultanate of Oman.

We hope that by organizing such Technical events, Quality control managers and welding engineers in Oman will have access to the latest welding technology leading to higher cost efficiency and enhanced project execution of Oil & Gas projects in Oman".
