Al Hassan Engineering wins MEED Quality Awards for Oil & Gas Project (26 Jan. 2011)

Al Hassan Engineering Co. SAOG (AHEC), one of Oman’s leading Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contractors is in celebration mode as its PDO Burhan – Harmal Pipeline Project has been nominated winner in the Oil & Gas Project of the year category from Oman in the prestigious MEED Quality Awards for Projects for its design, engineering and quality excellence.

The first award of its kind in the region, the MEED Quality Awards for Projects are designed to recognise and reward best practices in construction projects throughout the GCC region. These merit-based awards are judged by professional and independent members of the GCC engineering community, coming from the Gulf Engineering Forum and the Society of Engineers within each GCC nation. Five factors evaluated in the delivery of the project include economic and social feasibility; architecture and design; engineering; construction procurement and project management; environmental impact and sustainable development.

Commenting on winning this award, Mr. Peter Hall, CEO – AHEC, said, "This EPC Project included Well head Hook ups with flowlines and 36 km of Duplex Stainless Steel Pipeline. In close co-operation with the customer, PDO, completion was achieved four months ahead of schedule to the highest quality and safety standards. The team's 'passion for perfection' and commitment to excellence has obviously paid dividends. Year on year, AHEC develops new initiatives to continually improve business performance and to strive for excellence in all areas of operations."

Mr. Ahmed As Saadi, PDO Contract Holder said, "The PDO and Al Hassan Engineering Team has always believed in team work and managed to deliver this fast track EPC project 4 months ahead of Schedule without a single lost time incident (LTI) with very high HSE and Quality standards which is a real commendable achievement. I am delighted to be part of this winning team and extremely pleased to have been this recognition by MEED".

Edmund O'Sullivan, Chairman of MEED Quality Awards for projects said: "I am honored to announce that this truly deserving win for the PDO Burhan – Harmal Pipeline Project has been finalized purely based on the selection made by our expert judges from the Oman Society of Engineers, based on its qualification and experience.

On 22 March 2011, at the Gala Awards ceremony taking place at the Ritz Carlton, Bahrain, The Burhan – Harmal Pipeline Project, will compete at the GCC level against winners from Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, UAE and Qatar to find the 'GCC’s best' in each category.
