Al Hassan Switchgear Manufacturing Company performs ground-breaking ceremony at Buraimi (03 Aug 2008)

Al Hassan Switchgear Manufacturing Company LLC (AHSG), part of the Al Hassan Group of Companies recently carried out ground-breaking ceremony on the site of its new switchgear manufacturing facility at Buraimi, located at Oman-UAE border. The Buraimi facility is central to Al Hassan’s plans to be a dominant regional player in the switchgear business. The ceremony was attended by senior management of Al Hassan Group including its Chairman - Hassan Ali Salman, Managing Director - Maqbool Ali Salman and Narayanan Sudarsan - GM(Manufacturing SBU).

Established as an assembly workshop in 1992, AHSG has seen dynamic growth and diversification in a short span of time. With its sixteen years presence, AHSG stands out as a reputed manufacturer of quality products viewed against the backdrop of several assembly workshops that exist in GCC. Al Hassan Switchgear has won His Majesty Cup for the Best Factory in 2000 and His Majesty Shield in 2006.

Its sprawling complex covering 14,000 m² situated at Ghala in Muscat Capital Region makes it amongst the largest switchgear manufacturers in the Gulf. AHSG is by far the leader in its field with 65% market share in Oman with 60% of its production getting exported to Gulf Co-operation Council (GCC) countries, with UAE accounting for 30%.

Speaking on the occasion, Maqbool Ali Salman, Managing Director of Al Hassan Group of Companies said, "We have invested substantially to build state-of-the-art facilities that will bring in the latest technologies and a wide range of tried-and-tested switchgear products to the UAE's booming market. It is all about speed and ease of doing business and having the right assets in the right place at the right time for our customers."

He added that the Buraimi facility will allow Al Hassan Switchgear team to provide localized support and enable it to bring multiple capabilities under one roof. The plant’s strategic location at Oman-UAE border will play a critical role in realizing Al Hassan’s objective of being a proud local Omani manufacturer with a region-wide reach through easy access to Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

The new factory is located in Phase 1 of Public Establishment for Industrial Estate (PEIE) facility at Buraimi, covering an area of 45000 m². The new factory, like the present one at Ghala, will comply with stringent international standards and certifications like IEC, KEMA, ASTA. The product mix at the factory will comprise of Distribution Boards, Form 2 and Form 4 Panels, Feeder Pillars, Intelligent Motor Control Centres, 11kV and 33kV Medium Voltage Panels and Control and Relay Panels.

The knowledge and skill sets available at the Ghala factory will be extended to the greenfield Buraimi facility, thereby shortening the learning curve. Al Hassan expects the factory to be operational by end of 2008.
